Hextris
Hextris looks simple: rotate a hexagon to catch colored blocks. The depth appears when you realize you are not playing one isolated piece, but six slanted columns that affect each other. Every rotation should solve the current block without ruining the next one.
Blocks clear when you form connected groups of three or more of the same color. They do not need to arrive all in a row: you can prepare two blocks on one side and finish the clear with the next impact. The key is spotting those prepared pairs before speed forces late reactions.
Do not only watch the side where the piece will land. Check neighboring sides too: many clears start on corners, where one block can connect two zones of the same color. If one side grows too tall, make it a priority even if you lose a small combo.
A well-placed block can become a clear two moves later. If you cover it with different colors, it becomes dead weight. When in doubt, place the new block where it completes a pair or keeps matching colors close, not just where it fits.
On keyboard, fast drop is for accelerating a move that is already decided. Use it after aligning the hexagon, not before. If you hold it out of panic, you reduce your correction window and can chain two mistakes in a row.
When one side is close to overflowing, the temptation is to rotate only to save it. Do that, but check which color remains exposed after the emergency. Many runs end because one side is fixed while another is set up to receive the wrong block.
High scores come from survival and steady combos. Do not always chase the spectacular play: a small clear that frees a dangerous side is better than waiting for a perfect chain. Keep the center stable, clear before you hit the limit, and let the long run grow the score.
